You can find a barber anywhere in this day and age, just throw a pebble in any direction and chances are you’ll hit one. Finding the right one however, the one that knows hair can be like finding that elusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Don’t worry though, we are here for you. We are here to help you find the right one, after all we spend our time looking for the best of the best here in Kenya to work with us so we know a thing or two about itJ.

You will know you are seated in the right barber shop chair with the following guidelines:

Is he/she well groomed?

Chances are if your barber does not value his/her own grooming he won’t value yours. There’s always an exception to a rule but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Take note of the hairline, the nails and the beard, that is if they are lucky enough to grow one. How is his/her clothing? Pressed and clean?  It is this attention to detail that he/she will have on you. A great barber takes his personal appearance seriously because he’s in the business of helping men with their personal and professional image. It goes without saying, it’s not an inspection like soldiers do when mounting a guard of honor. Be sly about it but most of all be kind.

Does your barber ask questions?

A good barber will want to find out how you want to look. The only way to do that is by asking questions. Like a doctor trying to diagnose a sickness by asking about the symptoms you have, he will ask the right questions before he starts cutting or styling your hair. He will find out if you would like to change your current style and what that would look like. Basically, you want someone who’s able to take the time and learn more about your expectations in order to give you the style you envision.

Does the barber ask for feedback during the cut?

During the haircut, the type of barber you want is the one who will stop and ask you for feedback. They’ll let you look in a mirror and ask if your hair is still too long or if your hairline’s shape on the back of your neck is to your suiting. By asking for constant feedback during the haircut, a good barber can preempt any haircut disasters.
